NASHVILLE, Tenn.--Mayor Karl Dean is looking for solutions to fix some infrastructure issues in downtown Nashville. The city is growing with the Music City Center, and more businesses popping up, and Mayor Dean want's to keep Nashville appealing and comfortable for residents and visitors.

Mayor Karl Dean said, "When you're a growing city and increasingly popular city, you got keep looking at different ways to improve. It's pretty clear to me that that's an area where we could probably up our game. And we need to do that. "

Mayor Dean says a plan is the works to improve downtown Music City, starting with the traffic. The plan includes providing more space for cab drivers.

Marvin Sutton, Nashville Yellow Cab assistant manager said, "Everybody's trying to find a place to park and it's like a competition downtown. Sometimes it gets kind of stopped up down there, and it's hard to find a place sometimes."

With big events like the NCAA Women's tournament coming to town next year, the mayor is hoping to overcome those challenges.

Mayor Dean added, " As we move forward particularly as we go into? the new year...when there will be convention after big convention coming to the city, we need to be offering first class public transit... through not only buses, but also through cabs."

The plan also includes creating wider sidewalks downtown to hold larger traffic volume.

Mayor Karl Dean said, "Keep that a pedestrian friendly area and an area that works for everyone."

Tourist Polly Ingrham said, "It's good to be here with so much music, so many places readily available to just people dropping in.? I think you have to put up with a little bit of chaos maybe for what you get."

The mayor is also looking at getting parking spaces for musicians. The improvement plan is still in the early stages. Fox 17 will keep you updated as it develops.
