IDC: Samsung, ZTE see jump in mobile shipments, Apple slides to fifth place

Q3 earnings reports have been pouring in over the past few days, which means it's time to check in with IDC on the state of the mobile market. The research firm's latest report, released today, is something of a mixed bag. On the one hand, Q3 global shipments increased by 12.8 percent year-over-year -- higher than the 9.3 percent that IDC had predicted for the quarter and the 9.8 percent growth observed last quarter. At the same time, however, the market grew at the second slowest pace in two years and shipments to Western Europe and the US actually declined over the year, something the company attributes to more restrained consumer spending and more widespread economic uncertainty.

On the company level, both Samsung and ZTE came away as the biggest winners this quarter; Sammy's shipments increased by 23 percent over the year, good for second place, while ZTE's shot up by a whopping 57.9 percent, launching the company into fourth place. Apple, meanwhile, saw 26.2 percent growth in its shipments and a slight bump in market share, but still couldn't avoid getting leapfrogged by ZTE and dropping down to fifth place. And then there's LG, which had by far the worst quarter, relative to Q3 2010. The manufacturer saw shipments decline by nearly 26 percent over the year, while its market share slipped to 5.4 percent. All these horses, however, are still chasing Nokia, which saw a small drop in shipments, but managed to hang on to the top spot, with over 106 million shipments during the quarter -- good for 27 percent of the market. For more numbers and insight, check out the full PR after the break.

Perry, Romney contrast in style, substance (AP)

MANCHESTER, N.H. ? Campaigning just five miles and a few minutes apart, Republican presidential candidates Mitt Romney and Rick Perry showed first-in-the-nation primary state voters just how starkly different they are.

Romney, who leads the state's polls, has spent years campaigning in New Hampshire and has a home on a nearby lake, held an hour-long town hall meeting Friday outside Manchester. Perry, a much newer presidential candidate on his sixth visit to the state, filed his official paperwork to appear on the state's presidential primary ballot, met briefly with voters at a restaurant and gave a boisterous speech to social conservatives.

Romney held private meetings in Manchester and spent the evening taking questions from voters, covering fiscal policy, the environment, defense, even NASA funding. He largely ignored his Republican rivals and went after President Barack Obama.

"The president's philosophy," Romney said, "is extraordinarily misguided. What they have done over the last three years is every time they've seen an area they thought needed addressing, they put more government in, and what it did was it caused the private sector to retreat."

Romney is far ahead in the polls in the state. His organization is long-running and stable, and he faces challenges for the support of conservative voters.

Perry, his chief rival in money, staff and organization elsewhere in the country, spent his time defending his debate performances and campaign trail mistakes, and attacking Romney, a former Massachusetts governor, and businessman Herman Cain.

Romney "has been on opposite sides of a lot of issues. He was for banning handguns. Now he's Mr. Second Amendment," Perry said during a radio interview at the Barley House restaurant across from the New Hampshire Statehouse. "Governor Romney in his book initially said his health care plan would be good for America. And then he took that sentence out when the book came out in paperback. So the issue is, Who are we really going to trust to stand up every day and be consistent? I have been consistent."

In a spirited speech at the socially conservative Cornerstone Action's banquet, Perry cracked jokes, talked baseball, quoted from Proverbs and waved his one-page flat tax filing form in the air.

Romney is businesslike, calm, usually careful. Perry is aggressive, spirited and pointed in conviction. They could hardly provide New Hampshire voters with two more different candidates to choose from, in style, focus or substance.

Romney came to his town hall surrounded by a few of his longest-serving and most influential advisers, business leaders and political operatives. He opened his remarks with an anecdote about his father, former Michigan Gov. George Romney, to describe why the economy is in trouble.

"He said there's nothing as vulnerable as entrenched success," Romney told the crowd of about 100. "His idea was that some groups of people or companies or nations become so used to their success that they become complacent, they become fat, lazy, and other upstarts are able to rush past them."

Romney has worked hard in New Hampshire for months, almost since he lost his bid for the 2008 nomination. He's focused relentlessly on his economic message, a pitch that plays well with independent-minded voters in the state. He avoids the social issues that tripped him up last time, including abortion and gay marriage.

While he was on message during his appearance on the trail, his campaign was left to deal with yet more accusations that he had flip-flopped on a major issue important to conservatives. It's a charge left over from the last campaign, and one he's been unable to shake.

On Friday, Democrats seized on comments he made in Pittsburgh, where he said he wasn't sure what was causing global warming ? remarks they portrayed as a shift from a previous position, though Romney had said as much before.

Perry, by contrast, is on his sixth visit to the state since he announced his presidential run in mid-August. He's far behind in the polls in New Hampshire and probably will focus on the caucuses in Iowa and the primaries in South Carolina and Florida. He arrived, as always, accompanied by a few of personal aides and a sizable security contingent.

His central message is his job creation record in Texas.

How to unbalance nothingness

Friday, October 28, 2011

Nothingness ? this is the research subject-matter of a team of theoretical physicists from the Universities Jena (Germany) and Graz (Austria). "The ground state of our world can't be described by the absence of all matter," Professor Dr. Holger Gies from the Institute of Theoretical Physics of the Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena and the Helmholtz-Institute Jena explains. "This so-called quantum vacuum rather turns out to be a complex state of constantly fluctuating quantum fields with physical properties."

The world-wide community of physicists is hoping to be able to witness a particularly spectacular characteristic in a few years' time: the spontaneous decay of the vacuum into pairs of particles of matter and antimatter in super strong electric fields. Due to the new research results of the Austro-German team of physicists, this goal came a few steps closer.

Although first theoretical consideration concerning the spontaneous decay of the vacuum dates back to the year 1931, its comprehensive understanding is still in its infancy. ?A great challenge in modern theoretical physics is the description of quantum fields out of equilibrium," Professor Gies explains. "We are facing this problem in phase transitions in the early Universe as well as in many experiments in solid state physics." Therefore experimental proof of the vacuum decay ? as it might be delivered by high intensity lasers in the near future ? will provide knowledge exceeding this particular field.

The scientists from Graz and Jena now succeeded calculating the time evolution of the vacuum decay in detail. "Even we were surprised by the results," Professor Gies confesses. According to the results particles of matter and antimatter behave in a novel self-focusing way and therefore the possibility of discovering them is higher than expected. "The quantum vacuum has already had some surprises in store," says the Heisenberg-Professor for Theoretical Physics. "To unbalance this nothingness could develop into a new prolific field of research."

India urges Europe, U.S. to resolve debt mess (Reuters)

PRETORIA (Reuters) ? Leaders from India, Brazil and South Africa urged the world's rich countries on Tuesday to contain their financial crises and prevent the global economy from slipping into a double dip recession.

Speaking at the fifth India, Brazil South Africa (IBSA) summit in Pretoria, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said financial turmoil in Europe, the United States and Japan was hurting developing countries.

"Developing countries cannot remain untouched by the negative impact of these developments," Singh said.

"We hope that effective steps will be taken by Europe and other economies to calm the capital and financial markets to prevent the global economy from slipping into a double dip recession."

Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, attending her first IBSA summit, called for an end to currency protectionism and for strong commitments from the world's economic giants to control the debt crisis on the periphery of the euro zone.

"We need a credible agreement from European countries to prevent the crisis from getting out of control. We cannot be held hostage of old fashioned visions or paradigms," she said.

The summit is meant to boost trade between the Asian, African and South American giants, come up with measures to counter piracy in the Indian and Atlantic oceans and strengthen negotiating positions on climate change.

However, IBSA's importance as a diplomatic forum has been overtaken by South Africa's admission this year to the wider BRICs grouping, that also includes China and Russia.

South Africa's Department of Trade and Industry said IBSA trade stood at $16.1 billion in 2010 and the bloc was in "striking distance" of hitting $25 billion by 2015.

Gun Injuries to U.S. Kids Likely Underestimated: Study (HealthDay)

MONDAY, Oct. 17 (HealthDay News) -- The number of gun injuries suffered by children in the United States is significant, and most of those kids are shot intentionally, a new study finds.

There were 185,950 emergency department visits for gun-related injuries to children 19 years and younger between 1999 and 2007, according to the analysis of data from the National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care Survey.

That works out to about 20,600 such injuries a year, the researchers said.

Of the overall gun-related injuries noted in the study, nearly 8,400 (4.5 percent) were fatal. The study also found that 63 percent of the injuries were intentional and 37 percent were accidental.

Children at highest risk included males, adolescents age 12 and older, and blacks.

The study was scheduled for presentation Oct. 17 at the American Academy of Pediatrics' national meeting in Boston.

"This is a significant finding. Perhaps we are underestimating the true scope of this problem," lead author Dr. Saranya Srinivasan said in an AAP news release.

"We know there are certain pediatric populations at higher risk for firearm injuries. We hope this research will bring attention to the issue of pediatric firearm injuries, and that we can continue to focus our efforts on firearm injury prevention campaigns, including targeting the regions and groups at the greatest risk for these injuries," Srinivasan added.

The most pediatric gun injuries occurred in the South (47 percent), and the least in the Northeast (5 percent), the researchers found.

Research presented at meetings should be considered preliminary until published in a peer-reviewed medical journal, experts say.

(AP) ? Bill Clinton is happy to have celebrities call attention to his Clinton Foundation, but he's not above spoofing them, either.

In a new Web video for the 10th anniversary of the Clinton Foundation, a coterie of stars performs as the foundation's airheaded "Celebrity Division." Ben Stiller leads an unproductive fundraising brainstorming session with Matt Damon, Sean Penn, Kristen Wiig (wihg), Jack Black, Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen.

The former president makes a cameo.

The video was produced by Funny Or Die and will be posted on the site early Tuesday.

The William J. Clinton Foundation held a star-studded anniversary concert over the weekend in Los Angeles. The foundation has sought to improve global health, strengthen economies worldwide, promote healthier childhoods and protect the environment.

Packers stay perfect at 6-0,?beat winless?Rams

Jordy Nelson, James Laurinaitis

By CHRIS JENKINS

updated 5:26 p.m. ET Oct. 16, 2011

GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Green Bay Packers' record remains perfect. The fact that their play has been far from flawless remains a constant source of motivation for Aaron Rodgers.

Rodgers threw three touchdowns, including a career-long 93-yarder to Jordy Nelson, and the Packers rolled to a 24-3 victory over the St. Louis Rams on Sunday. With Sunday's loss by NFC North rival Detroit, the Packers (6-0) are the last unbeaten team left in the NFL this season.

But Green Bay's offense hit a lull and didn't score in the second half.

"It's a feeling of minor disappointment, I think, in that locker room," Rodgers said. "We just, in the second half, offensively just struggled. The second quarter was great, we put up a lot of points. I think it's encouraging at the same time. It's tough to win in this league, we're 6-0, and have a lot of room for improvement."

Rodgers threw for 310 yards, delivering touchdowns to Nelson, James Jones and Donald Driver.

Sam Bradford was 28 of 44 for 321 yards with an interception for the Rams (0-5), who were coming off their bye week.

"We do not accept losing and our actions will reflect that," Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo said. "It is about winning football games, not moral victories."

Bradford's ankle was sore after the game, but the Rams didn't seem overly concerned about the injury.

Rams running back Steven Jackson had 18 carries for 96 yards.

"For whatever reason, we get into the red zone, we keep shooting ourselves in the foot," Jackson said.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy had a mixed reaction to the victory. He bristled at questions about the offense being shut out in the second half, saying, "the last time I checked, when you win by three touchdowns, that's a pretty significant win."

But McCarthy also said the team isn't anywhere near where it wants to be.

"You have to be running on all cylinders, and we're not there yet," McCarthy said. "So fortunately, we're 6-0. We'll continue to work to get there."

The Packers were wearing blue-and-gold uniforms designed to replicate a 1929 design, but Rodgers' ability to scramble out of trouble and make big plays was anything but a throwback to the days of leather helmets. Rodgers did offer a wholehearted endorsement of the third uniform earlier in the week, saying the pants were among the most comfortable football pants he'd ever worn.

As Rodgers kept rolling, the Packers continued to brush off a fresh batch of injuries.

Green Bay got right tackle Bryan Bulaga back from a knee injury after the 2010 first-round pick missed the previous two games. But the Packers will have to live without veteran left tackle Chad Clifton indefinitely after he injured his hamstring in last Sunday's victory at Atlanta.

Second-year player Marshall Newhouse took over for Clifton, but the Rams couldn't get much pressure on Rodgers ? and when they did, he simply spun away.

The Packers also were banged up at safety. Already missing Pro Bowl safety Nick Collins ? out for the season after sustaining a neck injury in Week 2 ? fellow safety Morgan Burnett had to play Sunday's game with a huge club on his broken right hand.

Green Bay's secondary took another blow in the third quarter when cornerback Sam Shields sustained a head injury after he picked off a Bradford pass in the end zone and was hit hard. McCarthy said Shields was still being evaluated after the game.

Trailing 3-0 and facing a fourth-and-3 play near the end of the first quarter, the Rams went for it and Bradford threw incomplete. The Packers got the ball back and gambled on fourth down as well, going for it on fourth-and-1 at the 50. James Starks burst through the line for a 15-yard gain.

Rodgers showed his mastery of play action on the next play, faking a handoff to Starks on the right side, rolling to his left and delivering a perfect pass to Jones in the end zone for a 35-yard touchdown and 10-0 lead.

After a Rams punt pinned the Packers at their own 7, Rodgers got the best of former teammate Al Harris on his big play to Nelson. Rodgers got the veteran cornerback to bite on a fake and then threw a rainbow to the wide-open Nelson for an easy score and a 17-0 lead.

Harris was impressed by his former team, calling them the best in the league.

"Personally, I think they are," Harris said. "We would have loved to beat them, but they played well."

Rodgers put together another drive toward the end of the second quarter, capitalizing on the threat of his running ability to finish it off. On second-and-goal at the 7, Rodgers appeared to make a run for the end zone ? then pulled up and flipped the ball to Driver for a touchdown with 1:51 left before halftime.

After a 36-yard field goal by Josh Brown, Green Bay led 24-3 at the half.

"They drove the ball on us a little bit," Charles Woodson said. "But you keep a team out of the end zone, you've done a great job."

Notes: Wide receiver Mike Sims-Walker and linebacker Ben Leber were inactive for St. Louis. Neither player was listed on the team's injury report this week. "We weren't trying to send any messages," Spagnuolo said. "We just put out the guys out there that we thought would help us win the game." ... Rodgers threw his third interception of the season, a tipped ball in the fourth quarter. ... It was the Packers' last home game for nearly a month.

ROME (AP) ? Italian riot police fired tear gas and water cannons Saturday in Rome as violent protesters hijacked a peaceful demonstration against corporate greed, smashing bank windows, torching cars and hurling bottles.

Elsewhere, hundreds of thousands nicknamed "the indignant" marched without incident in cities across Europe, as the "Occupy Wall Street" protests linked up with long-running demonstrations against European governments' austerity measures.

Heavy smoke billowed in downtown Rome as a small group broke away and wreaked havoc in streets close to the Colosseum and elsewhere in the city.

Clad in black with their faces covered, protesters threw rocks, bottles and incendiary devices at banks and Rome police in riot gear. With clubs and hammers, they destroyed bank ATMs, set trash bins on fire and assaulted at least two news crews from Sky Italia.

Riot police charged the protesters repeatedly, firing water cannons and tear gas. Around 70 people were injured, according to news reports, including one man who tried to stop the protesters from throwing bottles.

TV footage showed one young woman with blood covering her face, while the ANSA news agency said a man had lost two fingers when a firecracker exploded.

In the city's St. John in Lateran square, police vans came under attack, with protesters hurling rocks and cobblestones and smashing the vehicles. Fleeing the violence, peaceful protesters stormed up the steps outside the Basilica, one of the oldest in Rome.

"People of Europe: Rise Up!" read one banner in Rome. Some activists turned against the violent group, trying to stop them and shouting "Enough!" and "Shame!"

Rome Mayor Gianni Alemanno blamed the violence on "a few thousand thugs from all over Italy, and possibly from all over Europe, who infiltrated the demonstration." Some Rome museums were forced to close down and at least one theater canceled a show.

Protesters also set fire to a building, causing the roof to collapse, reports said. The Defense Ministry denied reports it was one of its offices.

Premier Silvio Berlusconi called the violence a "worrying signal," and added that the perpetrators "must be found and punished."

Berlusconi barely survived a confidence vote Friday, with many questioning his leadership. Italy's debt burden is second only to Greece in the 17-nation eurozone and the country is rapidly becoming a focus of concern in Europe's debt crisis.

ANSA said four people from an anarchist group were arrested Saturday with helmets, anti-gas masks, clubs and hundreds of bottles in their car.

Elsewhere, bright autumn sunshine and a social media campaign brought out thousands across Europe.

In Spain, the Indignant Movement that began around-the-clock "occupation" protest camps in May which lasted for weeks held evening marches Saturday that converged on Madrid's Puerta del Sol plaza.

"There is a huge crowd here," said Elsa Varona, whose choir sang an excerpt from Giuseppe Verdi's Nabucco overture as the marchers arrived. Organizers said 300,000 people took part, but police did not offer an estimate.

Other Spanish cities including Barcelona, Seville, Valencia and Malaga hosted similarly well-attended gatherings."

Portuguese protesters angry at their government's handling of the economic crisis pushed against police lines in Lisbon, but officers stopped them from storming parliament. Portugal is one of three European nations ? along with Greece and Ireland ? that has had to accept an international bailout.

In Frankfurt, continental Europe's financial hub, 5,000 people protested at the European Central Bank, with some setting up a tent camp in front of the ECB building.

Wikileaks founder Julian Assange spoke to protesters outside St. Paul's Cathedral in London, calling the international banking system a "recipient of corrupt money."

The London demonstration swelled to several thousand people by early evening, and police said three were arrested. While protesters erected tents and gathered blankets, food and water to settle down for the evening, police urged them to leave, saying cathedral staff needed to prepare for Sunday services.

In Paris, marchers shook their fists and shouted as they passed the city's historic stock exchange, before congregating by the hundreds outside the ornate City Hall.

"Stand up Paris! Rise Up!" protesters shouted. "Sharing will save the world!"

The Greek capital of Athens has seen near-daily strikes and protests as the government fights to avoid bankruptcy, and Saturday was no different. Some 2,000 rallied outside parliament against a new austerity package being voted upon on Thursday, while teachers and civil servants held marches elsewhere in the city. In Thessaloniki, Greece's second city, 3,000 took part in a peaceful protest.

Several hundreds more marched in the German cities of Berlin, Cologne and Munich and the Austrian capital of Vienna, while protesters in Zurich, Switzerland's financial hub, carried banners reading "We won't bail you out yet again" and "We are the 99 percent."

That referred to the world's richest one percent, who control billions in assets while billions of others are struggling to make ends meet.

In Brussels, thousands of marched through the downtown chanting "Criminal bankers caused this crisis!" and pelted the stock exchange building with old shoes.

Protesters also accused NATO, which has its headquarters in Brussels, of wasting taxpayer money on the wars in Libya and Afghanistan, saying that one European soldier deployed to Afghanistan costs the equivalent of 11 high school teachers.

Some 300 activists rallied in Helsinki with homemade signs and stalls full of art and food.

Across the Atlantic, hundreds protested near the Toronto Stock Exchange and the headquarters of major Canadian banks to decry what they called government-abetted corporate greed. Protests were also being held in Montreal, Vancouver, Halifax and Winnipeg.

In New York, hundreds marched on a Chase bank to protest the role banks played in the financial crisis, and demonstrations culminated in an "Occupation Party" in Times Square.

In South Africa, about 50 activists rallied outside the Johannesburg Stock Exchange to demand more jobs, free education and universal healthcare.

Support for the anti-capitalist protest movement was light in Asia, where the global economy is booming. About 300 people turned out in Sydney, while another 200 chanted anti-nuclear slogans outside the Tokyo Electric Power Co., which operates the tsunami-hit Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant. In the Philippines, 100 people marched on the U.S. Embassy in Manila.

Twitter - The Latest Feature Of iPhone iOS 5 - ArticlesWide.com

It was first Orkut, then FaceBook, now its twitter. Twitter is the world's foremost social networking site. It is a site that is more lightweight than Facebook and more precise. It is an on-the-go site that is fairly simple to use. Used by stars and celebrities it has gained popularity all through the world for instant updates. The iPhone is definitely not late in catching the twitter-fever. Thus the twitter application on iPhone was born thanks to the hard work by iPhone developers.

The twitter application is integrated in iOS5 and is an extension of the twitter website, in the form of an iPhone application. Each update put up on the website is called a 'tweet'. A tweet is understood both as a noun as well as a verb. Somebody always tweets a tweet. Since twitter is incorporated into the operating system of the mobile, it can be invoked from a list of other applications namely safari or YouTube or maps.

In iPhone, a twitter account is set up in the settings section, just like how email accounts are setup. We can set up any number of twitter accounts. The important feature here is that we can store the twitter usernames of our friends, right in their contacts, just like their mobile numbers. This ensures a one-time login and a one-time storage of names. If you have a 3Gs then you can find the twitter application in the Apple AppStore which you can download and install.

Photo Tweets

Thanks to the iPhone development teams gone are those days, when you have to take your digital camera and your laptop on the go. Here, with this single application on your iPhone, you can make your travel luggage light as well as keep everyone updated about your life. And these updates can contain a photo of the moment that you want to share with your friends. It is a single one step process to tweeting. Take the required photo and touch the screen. There will be a drop up menu with the option tweet. It is as simple and easy as that.

Across Other Applications

This application is one of its kinds in the history of iPhone applications. Though there is a separate icon for twitter, it can also be invoked from other applications. For example: if we are browsing through the internet on safari and we like the link that we are accessing. We want to tweet it. So what we must do is just click on the tweet option. The link along with our comments (if any) will be posted to the website. The other applications, from where we can tweet, are YouTube and Maps. From YouTube, we can tweet the video that we may have just uploaded. And from Maps we could tweet the location we are in or any distinct location that we want to tweet about.

An All-In-One Application

Hence, an iPhone incorporated with this application, is a digital camera, a laptop and a GPS, all rolled into one and this is due to the pains taken by the iPhone development teams to give us the best.

Many seniors will need some kind of extra care but there are many nursing home alternatives.

Home care is one of the most popular options for aging seniors. This type of treatment allows the senior to remain at home in an environment that they are comfortable in. A trained professional comes to the senior?s residence and will help provide basic services like grooming, bathing, meals, and any other small task that requires help.

This allows the primary care giver to work or to take a day off. They also provide seniors with friends who are their own age and experiencing the same difficulties.

Assisted living centers are the most popular option for those who need full time care but still want some level of independence. These centers are usually set up like condominiums and each person has a small apartment. Help is always nearby in case of emergency, and this makes everyone involved feel much safer.

Neighbors and community can be a great support system for those who need help. Feeling like a part of the community and having friends with similar challenges can make a big difference in the quality of life that a loved one enjoys.

One of the newest alternatives is matching seniors with roommates. Elderly roommates can help each other in areas that they struggle. Shared housing has become more and more popular over the last 5 years. Some shared housing units can support anywhere from 5 to 15 people who may need help with day to day living.

Officials: Ore. man says victim begged to be shot (AP)

MYRTLE CREEK, Ore. ? Authorities say an Oregon man accused of killing another man whose body was found on a logging road has told detectives the victim had terminal cancer and begged to be shot.

The Roseburg News-Review reports (http://bit.ly/optd1y) that Charles Henry Teal was arraigned Tuesday on a murder count in the death of 39-year-old Jeffrey Bension.

A sheriff's report filed in court in Douglas County says the 26-year-old Teal told detectives he shot Bension in the head in a mercy killing. Bension reportedly had recently moved into the Myrtle Creek home Teal shares with several other people.

Bension's body was found by a hunter early Monday about 10 miles northeast of Myrtle Creek, in southern Oregon.

The newspaper reports that court documents don't address whether Bension really had cancer.

House seeks to cut certain education funding (Reuters)

(Reuters) ? The House of Representatives has proposed a cut in certain federal student aid funding in fiscal 2012, potentially hurting for-profit colleges.

The House has sought significant cuts in the Pell Grant funding -- federal aid to mainly low-income undergraduates -- from the 2011 levels in the Labor, Health and Human Services Funding bill.

A BMO Capital analyst note said the reduction is about 7 percent of the total estimated Pell Grants received in fiscal 2011.

The proposal, which was released late Thursday, seeks to stop Pell Grants for students attending school less than half time and for students who do not have a high school diploma.

Cutting Pell Grants would negatively impact the for-profit schools, where a majority of students are in the low-income category.

Colleges like Corinthian Colleges, Lincoln Educational Services and Career Education are the most exposed to these students, compared with other schools in the post-secondary education industry.

Though news of the cuts upset post-secondary stock prices, it is far too early in the process to discount what Budget will be passed given the political conflict in Washington, said Trace Urdan, an analyst with Wunderlich Securities.

The bill also looks to block the state authorization rule, which was finalized last year. This could prove to be a positive for the education companies.

The state authorization rule sets minimum standards that U.S. states must follow while approving or monitoring which schools get federal student aid.

Shares of education companies were down slightly on Friday morning. The education sector index was trading down 2 percent. (Reporting by Megha Mandavia in Bangalore; Editing by Sriraj Kalluvila)

?How much can I afford?
# 1.
Contact a local lender.?With the daily changes in?the mortgage world, you need up to the minute information.? It?s?important to know what you can reasonably afford, what kind of interest rate you?get and any extra expenses you?should expect.
* Shop around, and let the other lenders know you are in the market for a good lender, if they know they have competition -they might offer you a better package!
- I am happy to provide recommendations on lenders I have worked with, know and trust.
?Do I really need a Realtor??
#2.
Find the best Realtor for you. Having a professional Buyer?s agent on your side looking out for YOUR best interest is key.? When you call the phone # on the?for?sale sign you will reach the agent listing the house, they?will have specific helpful information about the property?BUT?do keep in mind, when considering a contract, they?are working for the seller, and for the SELLER?S best interest, not?yours.
In most cases the commission is paid to the buyer?s agent from the seller?s closing, not from your pocket, so you get full representation?for FREE!? Interview a few different agents just as you would a lender.? See who is the best match for you.? It?s important that you trust your agent and feel comfortable working with them.
?Ahem..and feel free to interview us at Blue Ribbon!
?I want to buy a foreclosure!?
# 3.
I understand the concept of wanting to get?a ?really good deal? on a house, this is a great time to?find good deals?who wouldn?t want a good deal?!
?BUT,?if you are considering going through the process of buying a foreclosure, I highly recommend extensive counsel from your Realtor, a lawyer and tax accountant.? The process is not as simple as one might think.? The liability (such as?backed up liens or 2nd mortgages)? from a distressed property can be costly, stressful and time consuming to deal with.? Not all foreclosures and short sales are difficult but knowledge on?what to expect and making the right choices for your situation are very important.
?Do I really need to get an inspection?? The house looks fine.?
# 4.
Answer: YES. Getting a home inspection on the house you are buying is one of the most important items to take care of.? Even on new construction, having a professional inspector check the quality and current condition of the house is vital!? When making an investment of hundreds of thousands of dollars on the line a 0-0 inspection is worth every cent!? I have the names of several great inspectors if you are looking.
?I want my property value to grow, how can I gain equity in my new home?
# 5.
Keeping up your property?healthy?and maintaining your new asset is very important!? Something I recommend to my buyers is to?put aside 1% of your purchase each year to put toward improvements.??You most likely won?t even need that much but repainting, cleaning carpets, upgrading fixtures?a little bit?can go a long way over the?years.??You owe it to yourself and it will help your property value go up over time.? Not to mention enjoying a nice well maintained home while you live there.
*********************************************************************************************
There are several other key points that are essential in the home buying process that I would be happy to go over with you or a friend you know in the market?for a new home.
These 5 where just a few helpful starts!
Feel free to email or call us anytime with questions you might have!
Thanks!
