How to Keep Your Car from Overheating This Summer - Aero ...

Last updated 5 hours 23 minutes ago

The summer heat takes a hard toll on vehicles, so it?s a good idea to have your vehicle inspected by a Woodstock auto repair shop to avoid being stranded due to overheating. There are a number of different aspects of a vehicle that can lead to insufficient engine cooling. Read through the following items that should be inspected to ensure your vehicle sees a problem-free summer.

Coolant

The fluid that runs from the radiator to the engine to cool it down is appropriately known as coolant. Automotive manufacturers provide service intervals to have this fluid changed, along with other fluids and components in the vehicle. If a coolant flush has not been recently performed, now is the right time to have it done. The fill level of the coolant should also be frequently checked and corrected as needed. If your coolant reservoir or radiator frequently needs filling, this may be a sign of a leak or improper mixture of coolant and water.

Hoses

Coolant leaks stem from a number of different places, but the first items to have checked are the hoses. Old or cracked hoses often leak fluid at connection points. They can also just break completely, leaving the car undrivable.

Equipment

The water pump, thermostat, and fan clutch are all very important pieces of the cooling system as well. The water pump should be changed at specific intervals to ensure it doesn?t fail. The timing belt, thermostat, and water pump should be serviced at the same time as? fluid flush. If the vehicle has high mileage, consider having a new fan clutch installed. When a fan clutch fails, it will leave the vehicle prone to overheating.

Tuning

Ensuring that every piece of a vehicle is in proper working order will reduce stress on the engine, and help prevent overheating. Having the motor oil and transmission fluid changed will reduce friction throughout the driveline and control heat levels. Having the air filter, fuel filter, and spark plugs changed will make the engine?s work easier, especially if any of these items were getting too old.
