HBT: Jeter's return cut short by quad injury

Derek Jeter made his season debut this afternoon, returning to the Yankees? lineup with an infield single in his first at-bat. Later, in his third at-bat, Jeter injured his right quadriceps muscle.

After the game both Jeter and manager Joe Girardi expressed optimism that it wasn?t a serious injury, but Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports that he is being sent for an MRI exam.

At the very least a tweaked quadriceps should keep Jeter at designated hitter for a while. He started at DH today, batting second in the lineup, while Eduardo Nunez manned shortstop.
