Beloved church leader dies in Cudahy

CUDAHY - Father Jan Kieliszewski?s body was taken away on a stretcher from Nativity of the Lord Parish.

?I don?t really think it?s settled in yet,? expresses parishioner Mark Slizewski. ?I?m dumbfounded.?

When parishioners got to the church?Sunday?morning, police told them Father Jan had passed away.

Residents say he?d been at the parish for a few years.

"He was very easy-going. He was easy to talk to. He always had a smile on his face and was wishing you a good day," explained those who knew him.

They were expecting to see him?Sunday?morning. People said when they saw the police tape and found out what happened, they had to go to a different service.

Parishioners tell TODAY?S TMJ4 Father Jan's impact on the community will be widespread.

?He's been very helpful with my oldest son who has a developmental disability,? added another resident. ?He has never questioned Tyler's ability to serve."

Police state someone called in that Father Jan had died. They don?t believe there was any foul play involved.
