WICHITA, Kansas (KSN) -- National League of Cities President Ted Ellis has announced the appointment of Wichita Vice Mayor Lavonta Williams to the National League of Cities' (NLC) 2012 Community and Economic Development Steering Committee.

The committee is responsible for developing policy positions on issues involving housing, community and economic development, land use, recreation and parks, historic preservation and international competitiveness.

The appointment was announced by Ellis on Sunday.

"The programs covered by this NLC committee have a dramatic impact on the City of Wichita," Vice Mayor Williams said. "My service on this committee will provide a unique opportunity to maximize our community's access to these resources."

As a member of the committee, Vice Mayor Williams will help shape policy positions, while advocating on behalf of America's cities and towns on Capitol Hill, with the Administration, and at home.
