Apple founder Steve Jobs to get posthumous Grammy

23/12/2011

Steve Jobs is to receive a posthumous Grammy Award for his services to music, organisers have announced.

The co-founder of Apple computers is to be honoured for his part in devising 'products and technology that transformed the way we consume music, TV, movies and books,' the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences said.

He is among those receiving one of the Trustees Awards that recognise 'outstanding contributions' to the music industry in a non-performing capacity.

Neil Portnow, president and chief executive officer of the Academy, praised this year's honourees, which include Diana Ross and Brazilian musician Antonio Carlos Jobim.

He added that it is 'an honour to recognise such a diverse group of individuals', who have had an 'indelible' impact on the music industry.

Computing visionary Jobs died in October aged 56 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He helped turn Apple into one of the world's most successful technology companies.
