The September edition of ?The Living Room with Gerry Bonds? radio program centers on the ongoing recovery process in the Moore public school district after the May 20 tornado and the issue of storm shelters in state schools and public buildings.
Details on the radio show, provided in a news release, are as follows:
Moore Schools Superintendent Dr. Robert Romines and Plaza Towers Elementary School Principal Amy Simpson are guests in one segment. ?Both share the emotions of these first few weeks, following the loss of seven third-graders from Plaza Towers Elementary School in the May 20 tornado.
They also discuss the rebuilding process for the two schools destroyed in the storms, as well as the temporary locations for both schools. ?In addition, they reveal the delicate and ongoing process of coping and counseling for students, parents, and teachers in the aftermath of the devastation.
In the other segment, guests are Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett and Senior Meteorologist Harold Brooks of the National Severe Storms Lab in Norman.
Mayor Cornett organized a Weather Safety Task Force after the May tornadoes, and Brooks is one of those serving on that Task Force. ?Cornett and Brooks talk about the realities of storm shelters for schools and public buildings, the role of personal responsibility and weather safety education, and the issue of shelter funding.
