1962 Ford Galaxie 500

Ford introduced the Galaxie nameplate in 1959 as the top-of-the-line trim level for its full size Fairlane in an attempt to capitalize on the public excitement over the space race. It must have worked because Ford began using the Galaxie name for all of its full-size models starting in 1962, right as the U.S. began catching up to the Soviet Union with John Glenn's historic orbital mission in February of that year. By the end of the decade, we landed Neil Armstrong on the moon and America's dominance of the space race was secure. And of course, back on the ground Detroit was turning out cars that were lower, sleeker, and more stylish than their predecessors. This 1962 Galaxie 500 Sunliner is an exquisite example from that era. Purchased new in Greensboro, North Carolina, the car has stayed in the South its whole life and has a well-documented ownership history back to new. The odometer reads just 80,153 miles which is probably correct. This Sunliner is very original, with original floor mats, original tri-color green upholstery and original door panels, all in fantastic condition. The front seat is wearing a clear protective cover, which can be removed. The car has been repainted to a high standard in a finish quite close to original Ming Green (it's actually an exact match for the color, but in a very subtle and tasteful metallic). The power convertible top with newer cloth works great, and the car is riding on correct bias-ply tires with correct hubcaps. The body is exceptionally straight and the panel gaps and trim are very good - including the miles of chome running down the sides. Original chrome rear fender skirts are included with the sale. All in all, she is very original, very correct and very well-preserved for a 50-year-old car -- and very much a head turner.
