Science Says 'Love At First Sight' Will Lead You Astray [EXPERT ...

Science Says 'Love At First Sight' Will Lead You Astray [EXPERT]
Do you believe in love at first sight?

A study tells us why your internal attraction meter is not a reliable gauge for love.

Think you know why you are attracted to a new person? In your dating experiences, have you found yourself making online dating choices based on the pictures or the profile? Did you agree to a second date because of share values and interests, relationship goals and love of sushi? Or was it that perfect white smile that made your heart sing?

More from YourTango: How Your Parents' Divorce Affects Your Love Life [EXPERT]

Thanks to an area in your brain, a particular region has been linked to your romantic choices. In a new study, it was found that this area makes quick decisions whether a new person is the right one or not within seconds. Apparently, this "instant attraction" mechanism leads daters to choose by their internal physical ideal of who is attractive to pursue.

Working with singles as a relationship coach, I understand how easy it is to allow a certain physical type to be the determining factor in dating, love and commitment. Unfortunately, reliance on this 15-second glance strategy leads to many unfulfilling relationships. The fear that one will have to settle for less than their ideal physical type if looks are not at the top of the "must have" list, is not the best approach to attracting the right relationship.

Take a look at some of the arguments that instant attractors raise:

1. I'll know the right one when I see him/her. If you have not worked through past relationship patterns, you will definitely not know. What will happen is a repeat of what you have already experienced and the inevitable break-up. It is your mindsets about love, relationships and how you expect to be treated which are the real directors in your choices. The attraction will be to those who put your pattern into motion.?

More from YourTango: Top 10 Signs You've Met Prince Charming [EXPERT]

2. I am only attracted to a certain type. If you are very closed off about dating those who do not match your physical ideal of the right one, you will tend to be drawn to superficial relationships. Many people can get fixed on dating those who are a certain height and build for example, only to completely overlook the one who would truly make their heart happy. Finding one another appealing is a definite part of the overall package, but to place looks front and center does not lead one to relationship fulfillment.

The Biggest Problems with Each Cloud Storage Service (and How to Fix Them)

The Biggest Problems with Each Cloud Storage Service (and How to Fix Them)Cloud storage services are terrifically useful, but none of them are perfect. FixYa's Cloud Storage Report identifies the biggest problems users have with Dropbox, Google Drive, iCloud, Box, and SugarSync and what you can do about those issues.

FixYa users' biggest complaints about Dropbox are: security concerns and storage limits. There's not much you can do about the service's security snafus, except steer clear of storing sensitive information on Dropbox or, if you must, encrypting your files before you store them there. As for space limitations, there are several methods to get extra space in Dropbox for free.

Google Drive users complain about missing folders and syncing issues. Luckily, one of the menu options for Drive on your computer is "Local Google Drive folder is missing"?so you can fix issues caused by deleting folders or renaming them.

The top issue users have with SugarSync is a bit odd (or at least niche): no Quickbooks support. Sorry, not much you can do about that. As for lack of storage space and pricing, you can also get more space for free on SugarSync through referrals.

iCloud and Box users also seem to have specific problems, such as Mountain Lion update errors for iCloud and upload issues for Box. FixYa offers several troubleshooting steps/fixes for both of these services and some of the other complaints for the ones mentioned above.

Hit up the link below to read the entire report. (You can also check out a comparison of the most popular cloud services here or get help figuring out what to do with all the free online storage space.)

College Greats: Vince Carter ? the best college dunker of all-time

David Astramskas November 16, 2012

Champs Sports is giving away $15k in college cash for college, a trip for two to the Russell Athletic Bowl in Orlando and $1,500 in Champs sports gift cards. ? In honor of those heading to college, Ballislife looks back at some of our favorite college players. ? To kick it off, we go to North Carolina where we had a giant pool to choose from including the GOAT but we are going with the Greatest College Dunker of All-Time in Vince Carter!

No titles. ?2nd team All-Amercian honors. ?Modest numbers like 16 points per game. ?So what was so special about the McDonalds All-American and future #5 NBA pick and Rookie of the Year? ? How about the most inbound and reverse alley oops, windmills, 360s and off the backboard dunks ever from a college player and a couple dunks on college great Tim Duncan too!

During those years in the mid to late 90s when the Bulls were going for their second 3 peat , I ranked Vince Carter as one of the top 3 can?t miss on TV players alongside Penny Hardaway in Orlando and Michael Jordan. ?The only thing that was preventing Vinsanity from putting up monster numbers to match his monster dunks was Dean Smith who also had Antawn Jamison, Shammond Williams and Ed Cota on the roster. Vince also ?had a few injuries his freshman year that stole atleast five dunks that would of made ESPN?s Plays of the Week montages from the 90s. ? But just like his shortened 50 game rookie season, it didn?t take full seasons to realize how great Vince Carter was.

Like most NBA players that went to college for more than a year as opposed to a 1 year pit stop between high school and the NBA, Vince Carter is more proud to represent his alma matter than any NBA team and last year he donated $2.5 million to the Carolina Basketball Family Fund. ?The donation was the largest in the school?s history.

?My days as a Carolina student, both pre-NBA and during the summers after I was drafted, will always be special to me,? ?It goes without saying that I am a Tar Heel. For several years, I have been thinking about something I could do to leave a legacy at UNC. Lettermen?s Lane is a perfect fit.? ? Vince Carter

Giving Back Because I'm Thankful #StarlightFoundation

No matter how stressful things have been for us this year ? with a major flood in our home and several financial woes, I am SO thankful for the our many blessings.

It can be so easy to get bogged down in the negative. To feel like the universe is against us. But the true gift is looking past the bad and seeing the beauty.

I have a kind and very loving and supportive husband John.??>

I have two smart and super affectionate children Ronin & Ellie?->

We have a beautiful support system of loving extended family and friends.

We have a comfortable and warm home.

We have homeowners insurance that got us through the flood restoration with only moderate expense and?aggravation?to us, and we now have mostly new floors!

And we all have our health. I am so grateful we are healthy.

That is A LOT of great gifts.

So I wanted to give back to the universe this year because I really am so thankful for what we have in our lives.

We live in the beautiful Seattle area, and Starlight Children?s Foundation Northwest is a wonderful organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for children with chronic and life-threatening illnesses and life-altering injuries by providing entertainment, education and family activities that help them cope with the pain, fear and isolation of prolonged illness. Preterm birth may be prevented with a few proven treatments, experts say

ScienceDaily (Nov. 15, 2012) ? Lowering preterm birth rates by an average of 5 percent across 39 high-resource countries, including the United States, by 2015 would prevent prematurity for 58,000 babies a year, a group of international experts said on November 15.

In an article published in The Lancet to coincide with the second annual World Prematurity Day, the expert group says prevention of preterm birth also could save billions in economic costs.

"Governments and health professionals in these 39 countries need to know that wider use of proven interventions can help more women have healthy pregnancies and healthy babies," says lead author Hannah H. Chang, M.D., PhD, a consultant for The Boston Consulting Group (BCG). "A 5 percent reduction in the preterm birth rate is an important first step."

"The preterm birth rate in the U.S. currently is on the decline, but for this trend to continue, it's critical that high-resource countries such as ours focus vigorously on prevention," says Christopher Howson, PhD, vice president of Global Programs for the March of Dimes, a co-author.

The authors of The Lancet article say that five proven interventions, when combined, would lower the preterm rate across 39 countries from an average 9.6 percent of live births to 9.1 percent, and save about $3 billion in health and economic costs:

? eliminating early cesarean deliveries and inductions of labor unless medically necessary;

? decreasing multiple embryo transfers during assisted reproductive technologies;

? helping women quit smoking;

? providing progesterone supplementation to women with high risk pregnancies;

? cervical cerclage for high-risk women with short cervix.

"The means to reduce the risk of preterm birth by 5 percent are already available," says Catherine Y. Spong, M.D., Associate Director for Extramural Research, Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. "Continued research into the causes of preterm birth has the potential to reduce the proportion of infants born preterm even further."

Preterm birth, birth before 37 weeks completed gestation, is the leading cause of newborn death, and babies who survive an early birth often face a lifetime of health challenges, including breathing problems, cerebral palsy, motor and intellectual disabilities and others.

Experimenting with drugs in the US

THE war on drugs is far from over, but we may be seeing the beginning of the end - at least for cannabis. On 6 November, two US states voted to legalise the drug, putting it on a similar footing to alcohol and tobacco (see "Cannabis legalisation launches living laboratory"). Colorado and Washington thus became the first states anywhere in the world to legalise an illegal psychoactive substance since war was formally declared in 1971.

One of the reasons legalisation passed was the failure of the status quo. If the main aim of drug policy is to reduce consumption, prohibition has not worked. It has arguably been counterproductive, putting a lucrative trade into the hands of violent gangs, saddling millions of people with criminal records, expending vast amounts of money and distracting attention from harm reduction. This has been obvious for years, but the taboos surrounding prohibition have remained largely unbroken.

Until now. Colorado and Washington have jumped first, but similar moves are afoot elsewhere, especially in Latin America.

What happens next will exert a huge influence over international drug policy. If legalisation does what its supporters say it will - reduce consumption and policing costs while raising revenues - the prohibitionist position will be further weakened.

But it could go the other way. Prohibitionists expect marijuana use to rise, and they may be proved right. Legal drugs are consumed at vastly higher rates than illegal ones, and where marijuana possession is decriminalised - meaning the police turn a blind eye - use tends to rise.

But there is also evidence in the other direction. When Portugal decriminalised possession of all drugs in 2001, there were dire warnings of an epidemic of use. Those fears proved groundless.

The bottom line is that we don't yet know what legalising marijuana will achieve. Supporters of a more rational, evidence-based drug policy (including this publication) have long seen legalisation as one possible alternative to prohibition. The bold experiment being undertaken by the people of Colorado and Washington will soon tell us whether we are right.

Pesticides in Fruits, Veggies may Up Cancer Risk

Research leader Professor Irva Hertz-Picciotto, of California University in Davis, said: "Contaminants get into our food in a variety of ways. They can be chemicals that have nothing to do with the food or byproducts from processing. We wanted to understand the dietary pathway pesticides, metals and other toxins take to get into the body."

A study of 364 children - 207 of whom were under-five - found safety consumption benchmarks were exceeded for arsenic, dieldrin, DDE and dioxins.

In addition more than 95 percent of pre-school children exceeded non-cancer risk levels for acrylamide - a cooking byproduct often found in processed foods like potato and tortilla chips. Non-cancer effects include the death of cells.

Pesticide exposure was particularly high in tomatoes, peaches, apples, peppers, grapes, lettuce, broccoli, strawberries, spinach, dairy, pears, green beans and celery.

"We focused on children because early exposure can have long-term effects on disease outcomes," study leader Dr Rainbow Vogt said.

"Currently the US Environmental Protection Agency only measures risk based on exposures of individual contaminants.

"We wanted to understand the cumulative risk from dietary contaminants. The results of this study demonstrate a need to prevent exposure to multiple toxins in young children to lower their cancer risk," Vogt said.

Some pesticides can be removed from fruit and vegetables through washing and light scrubbing.

The researchers used data from the 2007 Study of Use of Products and Exposure-Related Behaviour (SUPERB) which surveyed households in California with children between two and five to determine how their diets, and other factors, contribute to toxic exposure.

Specifically SUPERB homed in on 44 foods known to have high concentrations of toxic compounds.

This included the metals arsenic, lead and mercury, pesticides chlorpyrifos, permethrin and endosulfan, persistent organic pollutants dioxin, DDT, dieldrin and chlordane and the food processing byproduct acrylamide.

Toxin levels in specific foods were determined through the Total Diet Study in the US that determines levels of various contaminants and nutrients in foods and other databases.

Prof Hertz-Picciotto said: "We need to be especially careful about children because they tend to be more vulnerable to many of these chemicals and their effects on the developing brain."

The study outlines strategies to lower family exposure. For example, organic produce has lower pesticide levels.

In addition, toxin types vary in different foods. Certain pesticides may be found in lettuce and broccoli, while others affect peaches and apples.

Prof Hertz-Picciotto said: "Varying our diet and our children's diet could help reduce exposure."

"Because different foods are treated differently at the source, dietary variation can help protect us from accumulating too much of any one toxin," the Professor added.

The study is published in Environmental Health.

Socialite's climb halted by unfolding scandal

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) ? ? Jill Kelley's attempt to climb the Tampa social ladder ? the rungs of which included some high-ranking military officials ? has come to an ignominious halt. Accounts of lavish parties at her bay front mansion have been replaced by reports of her family's financial woes and other dirty laundry, and claims that she traded on her acquaintance with David Petraeus to try to further lucrative business dealings. Now, even her "Friends of MacDill" Air Force base access pass has been unceremoniously revoked.

? The tangled web enveloping the daughter of Lebanese refugees, her twin sister, former CIA chief Petraeus, and Marine Gen. John Allen, who succeeded Petraeus as the top American commander in Afghanistan, has spread to include questions about a cancer charity Kelley and her doctor-husband, Scott, founded.?

? Although Petraeus' affair with his biographer, Army Reserve officer Paula Broadwell, was the immediate cause of his downfall, Kelley and her relations with the Tampa base and the U.S. Central Command have surfaced as a sort of connective tissue for the growing scandal.

? On Wednesday, a New York businessman said Kelley was introduced to him at the Republican National Convention in Tampa in August as someone whose friendship with Petraeus would help facilitate a no-bid deal with South Korea on a coal-gasification project. She would supposedly be in a position to help broker the billion-dollar deal directly with the Korean president, and expected a 2 percent commission, said Adam Victor, president and chief executive officer of TransGas Development Systems.

Kelley is an honorary consul for South Korea, a ceremonial position, and got diplomatic plates for her car. But after flying Kelley to New York to discuss how she could help, Victor says he concluded that she had little to offer in the way of deal-making expertise or connections with Korean leaders.

? The AP also learned Wednesday that Kelley attended an FBI "Citizens' Academy" last year. It was Kelley's complaints to an FBI agent about alleged threats from Broadwell that led to the general's resignation last week and has sidelined Allen's nomination to become the next commander of U.S. European Command and the commander of NATO forces in Europe.

The agent was Frederick W. Humphries, 47, a veteran counterterrorism investigator in the Tampa office, and he was among the FBI employees Kelley met during the academy, which lasted from Sept. 13 to Nov. 30, 2011, the AP learned.

? Both Petreaus and Allen have been guests at the Kelleys' 5,000-square-foot home on Bayshore Boulevard, which records show they purchased in 2004 for about $1.5 million. Jill Kelley's twin sister, Natalie Khawam, also lives there.

? The five-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bath brick Colonial with its stately white columns is on the main parade route for the Gasparilla Pirate Festival, Tampa's answer to Mardi Gras. And the couple soon gained a reputation for their sumptuous and well-attended affairs.

? Jill Kelley, 37, and her husband ? a cancer surgeon ? are members of the Tampa Yacht and Country Club.

The relationship between the Kelleys and Petraeus began in late 2008, when he came to MacDill to assume command of CENTCOM. The couple threw a welcome party for him, and he reportedly watched his first Gasparilla pirate parade from the Kelleys' lawn.

Kelley's overtures to the military brass are, in and of themselves, nothing extraordinary. In fact, most of these civilian-military relationships begin innocently enough.

For instance, the connection of another local couple, John and Leslie Osterweil, with MacDill and CentCom started more than two decades ago, when a teacher at their son's exclusive prep school asked him to take a general's boy "under his wing." That boy's father was then CentCom commander in chief, Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf. Since then, John Osterweil has become a regular presence on the base. He counts Allen and Petraeus as close friends, and each has visited the other's home.

? "You know, a lot of people are enamored by people who are high-ranking generals and admirals," he says. "I mean, a lot of people look at them in some type of a different light. I look at them as nice people that are my friends."

But Petraeus aides say Jill Kelley took it to another level, winning the title of "honorary ambassador" for her extensive entertaining at her home on behalf of the command, throwing parties that raised her social status in Tampa through the reflected glow of the four-star general in attendance.?

Petraeus honored the couple with an award, given to them in a special ceremony at the Pentagon just before he departed the military for his post at the CIA, an aide said, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to comment on the matter publicly.

Aaron Fodiman, who's been publisher of Tampa Bay Magazine for 27 years, said people like Petraeus and Allen usually don't know anyone when they arrive, and that people like Kelley act as "the welcome wagon." But while he described the hostess as "outgoing and effervescent," he said her parties "were like everybody else's parties."?

"Nothing different or special," who has attended several events at the Kelley home. "Standard procedure. Have a caterer. Feed people. Give them something to drink. And let them mix."

But behind the scenes, this veneer of upward mobility was showing signs of cracking.

? Hundreds of pages of court files in numerous cases portray the occupants of 1005 Bayshore Boulevard as both litigious and financially strained.

? The Kelleys' investment in a Tampa office building went sour when a $28,000-a-month tenant balked at payment because of problems with the air conditioning system. The couple later defaulted on the mortgage, and the property went into foreclosure.?

An attorney who represented the Kelleys in that case, Barry Cohen, ultimately became the target of a lawsuit over his legal fees. Chase Bank sued Scott Kelley over a $25,880.56 unpaid credit card bill.

Meanwhile, Khawam, Kelley's twin, has had legal troubles of her own.

She sued Cohen's firm, where she was an attorney, claiming sexual harassment by the chief financial officer.

? In court responses, Cohen said Khawam "has a judicially documented recent history and continuing propensity for the commission of perjury." He cited a court filing in the District of Columbia that described Khawam as having a "willingness to say anything, even under oath, to advance her own personal interests at the expense of ... others."

Khawam, who earned $270,822 in 2010, according to a court filing, has filed for bankruptcy.

? During a news conference Wednesday, Cohen said both sisters had been heard dropping Petraeus' name often, though he never heard Allen's name invoked. He said both subscribed to the idea that you should "join these clubs and have these parties and drop these names."

Referring to Jill Kelley, he said: "She does what she thinks is necessary to be perceived as being important."

Her apparent importance and connections were described to Victor, when the New York businessman was introduced to her.

"We went down to the convention to spread our message about coal gasification and I met someone who seemed to be very well connected in Tampa" ? and was described as a friend of Petraeus and someone who could deal with the president of South Korea.

In an interview, Victor continued: "It was Jill Kelley. She was a very vivacious women. She seemed eager to assist us in our project and she confirmed that she was very close to Gen. Petraeus ..."

Victor said she talked about helping with a non-competitive bid. "And so that if the (South Korean) president liked it, as a favor to Gen. Petraeus, there would be one no-bid contract. Every developer likes a no-bid contract, or sole source. This certainly seemed worthwhile pursuing."

Victor said his company flew Kelley to New York, first class, for meetings, and then she flew to Hawaii, allegedly for meetings on the deal.

They discussed her compensation, Victor said. "I said, 'what do you think a fair fee would be?'" And she emailed me back, 2 percent of the deal," which he said could have amounted to tens of millions of dollars.

The company decided to work through others on the deal. "We decided that she simply was not a skilled negotiator in these large projects, she's never been in these large projects and I sort of felt that I wasted my time," Victor said.

?? In 2005, the Kelleys established Doctor Kelley Cancer Foundation Inc., with themselves and Khawam as its sole directors, according to the Florida Department of State. Its mission statement says the organization, which was based out of the Kelley home, was created to "conduct research studies into efforts to discover ways to improve the quality of life of terminally-ill adult cancer patients."?

In 2007, the last year for which it filed paperwork, the foundation reported revenues of $157,284 to the Internal Revenue Service, all from direct donations, according to its tax filing. The document lists expenses totaling precisely the same amount, including $43,317 for meals and entertainment, $38,610 for travel, $25,013 in legal fees, $8,067 for supplies and $5,082 in phone bills.

The filing claims $58,417 of its expenses went toward program services, but it's unclear what those services entailed.

Christopher Pietruszkiewicz, dean of the Stetson University Law School and expert on non-profits and taxation, said the foundation's filing "raises a lot more questions than it does provide answers."

"I'm not sure that we can come up with any conclusions about how the money was spent by the organizers of the charitable organization, but it does give us a sense about how $157,000 was spent," he said. "And I do think it raises some issues that either the Internal Revenue Service or the State of Florida may be interested in looking at."

The Tampa Bay Times reported Wednesday that as late as February 2010, Jill Kelley was soliciting contributions in the foundation's name to fund a dinner for the homeless. The paper cited an email in which she asked prospective donors for "'in kind' donations (i.e. more food, drinks, banners, decorations)" and noted that the charity was a "tax write-off."

As the Pentagon looks into up to 30,000 pages of emails and other documents ? some characterized as "inappropriate communications" ? between Jill Kelley and Allen, MacDill's commander on Tuesday revoked her access pass.

Kelley was issued the pass, one of about 800 handed out under a program to promote interaction with the civilian population, in November 2010, according to a military source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to comment on the situation. ?It was renewed this past February.

Several months ago, Jill Kelley was appointed an honorary local consul for South Korea, said Kristen Smith, executive assistant at the South Korean consulate in Atlanta, which also covers Florida. The license plate on Kelley's silver Mercedes-Benz reads, "Honorary Consul 1JK."

Smith was not authorized to say anything more about Kelley's activities on that country's behalf, although she confirmed that Kelley still maintained her position. When Kelley called police Tuesday to complain of reporters staking out her home, she cited her honorary position and requested "diplomatic protection."

During last year's FBI citizens academy, which Kelley attended, Natalie Shepherd, a reporter with Channel 8 in Tampa, was one of two media representatives also invited. Among the 30 people on the list was the head of the host committee for the Republican National Convention, a vice president of security for Walt Disney Corp., and the Hillsborough County tax collector.

"She's the only person on the list who's just listed as her name," said Shepherd.

Each Tuesday evening session at the local field office covered a different topic, such as domestic terrorism, international terror or cybercrime. Shepherd said agent Humphries led one talk about Afghanistan.

? Shepherd recalled Kelley as attentive and inquisitive, but otherwise low-key ? especially given recent revelations.

? "She wasn't dropping names or alluding to those connections at all," she said. "She seemed like one of the normal people in the class."

? The FBI did not immediately return a call requesting information on whether Kelley and the class.

Fodiman, the magazine publisher, said there's a sense that Kelley's many efforts to rise socially have been undercut by the scandal.

? "I think she has now been tainted," he said. "Just too much has come out, that even if it's not true, people will remember. I would imagine that they will ultimately leave the community."

Using a new method, researchers can now grow carbon nanotube semiconductors of predefined structures, which may pave the way for carbon to be used in future electronics

The heart of the computer industry is known as "Silicon Valley" for a reason. Integrated circuit computer chips have been made from silicon since computing's infancy in the 1960s. Now, thanks to a team of USC researchers, carbon nanotubes may emerge as a contender to silicon's throne.

Scientists and industry experts have long speculated that carbon nanotube transistors would one day replace their silicon predecessors. In 1998, Delft University built the world's first carbon nanotube transistors carbon nanotubes have the potential to be far smaller, faster, and consume less power than silicon transistors.

A key reason carbon nanotubes are not in your computer right now is that they are difficult to manufacture in a predictable way. Scientists have had a difficult time controlling the manufacture of nanotubes to the correct diameter, type and ultimately chirality, factors that control nanotubes' electrical and mechanical properties.

Think of chirality like this: if you took a sheet of notebook paper and rolled it straight up into a tube, it would have a certain chirality. If you rolled that same sheet up at an angle, it would have a different chirality. In this example, the notebook paper represents a sheet of latticed carbon atoms that are rolled-up to create a nanotube.

A team led by Professor Chongwu Zhou of the USC Viterbi School of Engineering and Ming Zheng of the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Maryland solved the problem by inventing a system that consistently produces carbon nanotubes of a predictable diameter and chirality.

Zhou worked with his group members Jia Liu, Chuan Wang, Bilu Liu, Liang Chen, and Ming Zheng and Xiaomin Tu of the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Maryland.

"Controlling the chirality of carbon nanotubes has been a dream for many researchers. Now the dream has come true." said Zhou. The team has already patented its innovation, and its research will be published Nov. 13 in Nature Communications.

Carbon nanotubes are typically grown using a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) system in which a chemical-laced gas is pumped into a chamber containing substrates with metal catalyst nanoparticles, upon which the nanotubes grow. It is generally believed that the diameters of the nanotubes are determined by the size of the catalytic metal nanoparticles. However, attempts to control the catalysts in hopes of achieving chirality-controlled nanotube growth have not been successful.

The USC team's innovation was to jettison the catalyst and instead plant pieces of carbon nanotubes that have been separated and pre-selected based on chirality, using a nanotube separation technique developed and perfected by Zheng and his coworkers at NIST. Using those pieces as seeds, the team used chemical vapor deposition to extend the seeds to get much longer nanotubes, which were shown to have the same chirality as the seeds..

The process is referred to as "nanotube cloning." The next steps in the research will be to carefully study the mechanism of the nanotube growth in this system, to scale up the cloning process to get large quantities of chirality-controlled nanotubes, and to use those nanotubes for electronic applications

Confession Of A Former Santeria Secret Society ... - Nollywood, News

santeria secret cult members confession nigeria Confession Of A Former Santeria Secret Society Cult Member In Nigeria, Chuku Dalo Onejeku

Nov 14, 2012 ? Confession Of A Former Santeria Secret Society Cult Member In Nigeria, Chuku Dalo Onejeku

My name is Chuku Dalo Onejeku. I?m a former member of a secret society called Santeria Cult in Onitsha, Anambra State, Nigeria.

I hailed from Ihiala Anambra State. I sold my mother?s soul to the devil.

I?m the only son in my family. My family home is based in Onitsha and my father was a successful business man.

My birth brought joy to my family as my parents were in dire need of a male child when I was born.

My mother spoilt me with gift and affection. I became a spoilt child who is constantly demanding.

My unending cares for worldly things ended me in a secret society called Santeria Secret cult.

In my quest for wealth, I met a 25 years old man who initiated me into the secret society. The man eventually died because of his commitment to the secret world.

After my initiation into Santeria secret cult headquartered in Bauchi state, I made enough money to feed a whole community.

HOW THE MONEY STARTED COMING

The money came through blood sacrifice of innocent kids

The devil who will gives something without telling you the consequences later mandated me through our chief priest to sacrifice the blood of innocent kids below 5 years on monthly basis and the kids must be from my relations.

Because of Santeria?s secret cult demand, I started killing my sister?s children one after the other.

I carried out my evil mission by buying gift and taking it to our cult leader to for sacrifice.

After proper sacrifice is carried out on the gift, I will then take it to my sister?s children

One week after my visit to any of my? sister?s children, one of the kids will die mysteriously.

Please note that this present world is being controlled by the spirit world.

Everything must first happen in the spirit before they manifest in the physical.

How I Killed My Mother Through Santeria Secret Society Cult?s Demand

One day I was told by our chief priest to donate an adult and the adult should be a relation I loves most.

I killed my mom so as to save my life.

After killing her spiritually, I went to see her in the duplex I built for her.

My mother told me she had a nightmare before her death that someone died in the family.

Because she wasn?t spiritually inclined, she didn?t pray about it.

After shopping at a supermarket, she was hit by a reversing car and pronounced dead at the hospital.

Some accident you see today are not natural. They are very spiritual some innocent people also die along with devil?s target.

As a child of God, it is highly essential to pray for God?s protection before you head out.

I also donated a childhood friend of mined named Uchenna to Santeria Secret cult.

I asked him to accompany me to a traditional wedding.

From onitsha to owerri, we stopped at Mr biggs to buy a lot of foods stuffs so as not to raise any suspicions.

At the appointed time and place our car tire bursted causing the car to somersault severally leaving my friend dead instantly.

I came out of the accident untouched because the spiritual attack was meant to take my friend.

I pretended as if I got injured and I liaised with a Santeria secret cult member friend of mine who owned a popular hospital in Onitsha to bandage me as an accident victim so as to please my friend?s family and after 2 weeks I was discharged.

Everything in this world happens spiritually. Only the few righteous ones can survive.

How Secret Society Members Take Other Peoples? Star

If I recognize someone who has a bright star.
I will lend the person money and the moment the person receives the money, he or she will start having problems

Credit payment is spiritual

Every trader should be careful of people around them

Secret society people take peoples? money by lending out credit.

know the type of people you buy things from on credit.

If you?re poor and only one person is rich in your family, you need to do something.

Consult a true man of God and pray for solution.

HOW TO KNOW A SECRET SOCIETY CULT MEMBERS

They are always very rich
They are very philanthropic
The give out money to their victims so they can be comfortable
They don?t give out cash easily
They kill goats or cows for their kindred during Christmas or ileya
( a way to take people stars or luck)
Be careful of such meats and manage whatever God provides for you.

don?t trust anybody even your blood brother

The devil has made people to be money conscious.

If you have a brother who never tries to help you set up your business
you need to be careful because they may be a member of a secret society

Nobody ever wishes to be bad however, during their initiation into the the secret society, their original good heart has been removed and replaced with a devilish heart that thinks of nothing but destruction.

Most secret cult members do sacrifice their own children by turning them to imbecile.
They take proper care of the imbecile amongst all their children because the money comes through them.

Relax and wait for God?s time to come.

Secret society cult members will lock up the riches of all the members of their family.

They build uncompleted houses not because they don?t have money to complete it they then rent it out.

Whoever lives in the uncompleted building will always have problem.

Secret cult members will approach you to start a business and once you allow them to combine their evil money with yours, they will command all your money to become theirs on their spiritual altars.

All your money will go down after they have called it forth from the spiritual realm.

SECRET SOCIETY ALTAR

They set a wardrobe in their room and whenever they want to operate, they bring it out and set it up.

Most of them have a room dedicated for themselves only and no other family member can enter.

They impregnate mad women for rituals

They indulge in homosexualism to acquire commanding power

They command to make a lot of money.
If they are pastors, they use the commanding power to do miracles so as? to get more worshipers.

BEWARE OF CHURCHES PERFORMING SUDDEN SIGNS & WONDERS

(AP) ? Army prosecutors on Tuesday asked an investigative officer to recommend a death penalty court-martial for a staff sergeant accused of killing 16 Afghan villagers in a predawn rampage, saying that Staff Sgt. Robert Bales committed "heinous and despicable crimes."

Prosecutors made their closing arguments after a week of testimony in the preliminary hearing. Prosecutors say Bales, 39, slipped away from his remote base at Camp Belambay in southern Afghanistan to attack two villages early on March 11. Among the dead were nine children.

The slayings drew such angry protests that the U.S. temporarily halted combat operations in Afghanistan, and it was three weeks before American investigators could reach the crime scenes.

"Terrible, terrible things happened," said prosecutor Maj. Rob Stelle. "That is clear."

Stelle cited statements Bales made after he was apprehended, saying that they demonstrated "a clear memory of what he had done, and consciousness of wrong-doing."

Several soldiers testified that Bales returned to the base alone just before dawn, covered in blood, and that he made incriminating statements such as, "I thought I was doing the right thing."

An attorney for Bales argued there's not enough information to move forward with the court-martial.

"There are a number of questions that have not been answered so far in this investigation," attorney Emma Scanlan told the investigating officer overseeing the preliminary hearing.

Scanlan said that it's still unknown what Bales' state of mind was the evening of the killings.

An Army criminal investigations command special agent had testified last week that Bales tested positive for steroids three days after the killings, and other soldiers testified that Bales had been drinking the evening of the massacre.

"We've heard that Sgt. Bales was lucid, coherent and responsive," Scanlan said in her closing argument. "We don't know what it means to be on alcohol, steroids and sleeping aids."

The investigating officer said Tuesday that he would have a written recommendation by the end of the week, but that is just the start of the process. That recommendation goes next to the brigade command, and the ultimate decision would be made by the three-star general on the base. There's no clear sense of how long that could take before a decision is reached on whether to proceed to a court-martial trial.

If a court-martial takes place, it will be held at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, the Washington state base south of Seattle, and witnesses will be flown in from Afghanistan.

The military hasn't executed a service member since 1961, and none of the six men on death row at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., today were convicted for atrocities against foreign civilians. All of their crimes involved the killing of U.S. civilians or fellow service members.

In the most recent high-profile case at Joint Base Lewis-McChord before Bales, the Army did not seek a death penalty court-martial against five soldiers accused of killing three Afghan civilians for sport. In that case, the ringleader was sentenced to life in prison with possibility of parole.

Bales faces 16 counts of premeditated murder and six counts of attempted murder. The preliminary hearing, which began Nov. 5, included nighttime sessions on Friday, Saturday and Sunday for the convenience of the Afghan witnesses. Bales did not testify.

The witnesses included a 7-year-old girl, who described how she hid behind her father when a gunman came to their village that night, how the stranger fired, and how her father died, cursing in pain and anger.

None of the Afghan witnesses were able to identify Bales as the shooter, but other evidence, including tests of the blood on his clothes, implicated him, according to testimony from a DNA expert.

After the hearing concluded, Scanlan spoke with reporters, saying that in addition to questions about Bales' state of mind, there are still questions of whether there were more people involved.

During testimony, a special agent testified that months after the killings, she was able to interview the wife of one of the victims, who recounted having seen two U.S. soldiers. Later, however, the woman's brother-in-law, Mullah Baraan, who was not present at the shootings, testified that the woman says there was only one shooter. The woman herself did not testify.

"We need to know if more than one person was outside that wire," Scanlan said.

Scanlan also raised the issue of post-traumatic stress disorder and brain injury, noting that Bales had received a screening at the traumatic brain injury clinic at Madigan Army Medical Center during a period of time that the center is under investigation for reversing hundreds of PTSD diagnoses of soldiers since 2007.

"We're in the process of investigating that," she said.

When asked if Bales had ever been diagnosed with PTSD, Scanlan said, "I'm not going to answer that right now."

Dan Conway, a military defense lawyer based in New Hampshire, said Tuesday that PTSD must be considered as a factor in the case.

"I think the defense team has an obligation to meet with doctors and determine if PTSD affected Bales' ability to premeditate the murders," Conway said. "It could play a very important role."

Bales' wife, Kari, and her sister, Stephanie Tandberg, met with reporters briefly after the hearings concluded. Tandberg read a statement, saying "we all grieve deeply for the Afghani families who lost their loved ones on March 11, but we must all not rush to judgment."

Last week, the lead prosecutor, Lt. Col. Jay Morse, said on the night of the killings Bales watched a movie about a former CIA agent on a revenge killing spree, with two fellow soldiers, while drinking contraband whiskey. Morse said Bales first attacked one village, Alkozai, returned to the base at Camp Belambay, then headed out again to attack a second village, Najiban. Bales returned to the base covered in blood, Morse said, and his incriminating statements indicate he was "deliberate and methodical."

In the family statement, Tandberg said: "We all want very much to know how, why, and what happened ... Much of the testimony was painful, even heartbreaking, but we are not convinced the government has shown us the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth about what happened that night ... We know Bob as bright, courageous and honorable, as a man who is a good citizen, soldier, son, husband, father, uncle and sibling. We in Bob's family are proud to stand by him."

Self-healing synthetic skin has a sense of touch

5 hrs.

Our robot helpers of the future may be able to judge our character by the strength of our handshakes thanks to a newly?created synthetic skin that is both self-healing and sensitive to touch.

Long before the skin protects robots from the elements, it could give prosthetic limbs a sense of touch and lead to self-repairing electronics in hard-to-reach places such as inside walls, according to the engineers who created the material at Stanford University.?

The breakthrough material begins with a plastic consisting of long chains of molecules joined by hydrogen bonds. The molecules easily break apart, but when they are reconnected, the bonds restore themselves ? giving the material its self-healing quality.

To prove the point, the researchers cut the material with a scalpel 50 times. After gently pressing the sliced halves together for a few seconds, it was 75 percent healed. After 30 minutes, it was 100 percent restored.

The sense of touch comes with a sprinkling of silver nanoparticles throughout the material, making it stronger and?electrically conductive ? the current flows by hopping from one particle to the next similar to crossing a stream by hopping from stone to stone.

As the material is bent, twisted or pushed, the distance between stones changes and thus alters the material?s resistance. These changes can, in turn, be translated to information about pressure and tension in the?skin, giving a robot, for example, a sense of?the strength of a person?s handshake.

While other teams have been working on self-healing synthetic skin, this is first that heals itself repeatedly at room temperature and can conduct electricity, according to a Stanford news release.?

A paper about the skin appeared in the Nov. 11 issue of?Nature Nanotechnology.?
